Imagine it’s only days before your wedding. It’s been weeks since your beautiful handcrafted wedding veil from Tara Bridal has arrived. You’ve tried it on, assured it arrived in pristine condition, and fell in love with the elegant embrace of its soft tulle fabric and the attention to detail in its many embroidered wildflowers. But during your wedding rehearsal, something has gone wrong. Maybe it got caught in the heel of your shoe as you walked down the aisle, it got stuck on sharp jewelry as you removed it, or one of your beloved guests spilled their drink all over it.
Accidents happen, right?
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of the cure. Perhaps nowhere is this as true as with your wedding veil. We recommend you read our previous blog on how to take care of your wedding veil, to help ensure these are not issues you need to deal with in the future.
But if you are already in that unfortunate situation where you need to repair your veil, don’t worry! We are still here to help. This blog will provide concrete steps you can take to make common veil repairs. If you have more questions, you can always reach out to us, we want to help you find creative solutions.
Torn Edge
If you have had a tear appear at the bottom of your veil, below the detailed lace or organza work, we recommend you simply cut along the bottom to remove the torn section. This ensures the look of the veil is unaltered, with just a minimal change in its length.
Hole Near 3D or Lace Details
If a tear has occurred near the flowers or petals of specifically Lace or 3D floral veils, you can sew the extra detailing that we provide you with your veil when shipped over the hole. We recommend you contact us first to advise you on placement and provide specific instructions on sewing with the soft tulle fabric.
Sew the extra detailing
For other holes in a veil, such as a large hole in the center, or torn embroidered organza petals, there is unfortunately not an easy at-home solution which will preserve the handcrafted look of the veil. In these cases, we recommend contacting us directly. We will provide professional advice on the best way to handle the damage and what options might be available to restore your veil.
Spills and Stains
Tulle is a delicate fabric. Cleaning out any stain will require patience, but it is possible with the right cleaner.
Hand-washing is a must, as a machine wash takes away your control to ensure the fabric is not damaged in the process.
- To start, you should test your detergent on the swatch of tulle fabric we provide to make sure it does not damage it or alter its color.
- Once you know you have the right cleanser, hand wash the veil in a tub of cold water with the detergent. Be careful not to stretch the fabric or scrub it. Simply swish the veil through the water and detergent allowing the cleaner to gently work its way through the fabric.
- Rinse thoroughly with cold, clean water after.
After washing, do not wring out your handcrafted wedding veil. Instead, lay it flat on a clean, dry towel and softly roll the towel to absorb excess water. If necessary, repeat with a dry towel. This method avoids damage and upholds the veil's integrity.
Remove red wine stains as soon as possible
However, be especially careful with Red Wine, or other dark colored beverages. Stains from these drinks may be increasingly difficult to remove. The sooner you begin the process, the greater your chances for success, but it is not guaranteed.
Again, the number one solution to fix any issue with your handcrafted veil is to prevent damage in the first place. We highly recommend you follow the guidelines we provide in our other blog: how to take care of your wedding veil, so there are no surprises on your special day, and you can ensure your ensemble looks its best as you walk down the aisle.
